For me, 2015 was a year of learning and reflection. Following Hannah’s overview of the year just past I felt compelled to follow up with some specifics, as there are a lot of changes that we made this year that I’m incredibly proud of.

Taking back control

When you start a business, the idea that you will be in complete control of everything is exhilarating. It definitely starts out that way, but before you realise it the business can start to take control over you.

It was clear to us that this was starting to happen.

Taking a step back it wasn’t hard to see that Club was doing really well but we’d been stuck in a sort of ‘survival mode’ that we (like many other young companies) had entered during our first year.

So we made a conscious decision to stop saying yes to everything. This was a big step for us. It afforded us the time to refine our services and how we delivered them.

During 2015 we have been able to drastically improve our on-boarding, scheduling, project management and client communications. A lot of the improvements were a direct result of the team having more defined roles and responsibilities.

Our individual responsibilities are now extremely clear and we’ve all started to document how we perform our duties in how-to guides.

If your business depends on you, you don’t own a business—you have a job. And it’s the worst job in the world because you’re working for a lunatic!

While this doesn’t sound very fun, it’s actually quite liberating. Their main purpose is to make it simple for another team member to take over a particular task whenever they should need to.

Where are we now?

Simplified and strengthened; with a plan, a process, a core set of values and renewed purpose.

We care about our customer’s brands as much as they do.

It isn’t enough for what we do to just look good; we explore until we fully understand the problem and use our skill and experience to deliver work that adds values and helps brands to grow.

We’re believers in simple, purposeful design.

Hello, 2016

I’m looking forward to finding out where all these positive changes will take us over the next 12 months.

Initially, we’ll be concentrating on the launch of our new website, which we’re really excited about.

It embodies our values, reflects how much we’ve grown and we’re confident it will be key in ensuring that growth continues.

We’ve done enough looking back now, we’re ready to move forward.

Purpose First.
